O

Octopus

One of my neighbours has just had an electric door fitted. The fitted commented that the garage didn't have an earth .... so I have just had a look

Sure enough 2 core SWA runs from a SFCU in the lounge (not glanded to the back box) out to the garage where the SWA is glanded to the back box.

SO I'm thinking that either

A. I run a new 3 core cable from the house to the garage (less than 1 metre) or

B. I run a 4mm CPC (in protection) from the SFCU to the garage ..

B is cheaper ........... anyone want to give me a reg number why I can't do it this way?

Yup B, who cares about reg numbers, it will work fine.

why not earth the SWA armour at the SFCU?

Customer doesn't want me making a big hole in the wall:)

Very amusing - not.;)

I'd put a new cable in. 1mtr? You could've done it in the time it took to post the question.....;)Hardly going to be much cost difference either way.

A small matter of a concrete path in the way means its not that easy...

Hence the post.:)

tell them it takes hammer to crack a nut . walk away .if they don't want it done ,I keep falling out with my neighbours because they always want the jobs done for nothing .my name is not jack been up the bean stork .

Paying is not an issue given their impeccable record ....

Is the 2 core visible on the outside of the house wall before it goes into the wall?

Just thinking that if you can intercept the 2 core between house and path, cut it and gland into new enclosure on outside wall, and run new cable into back of FCU? Could use TnE in conduit, so no disturbance to internal plasterwork, no digging up of path?
