Discuss Connecting tails to SWA in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

To the op I think I know what you mean tails go into a isolator and then the wires go into the bottom of it , but now the wires are not double insulated and are out in the open . The earth side is not as much problem

Hi, yes, MickFred, that’s why I have asked for any suggestions. Pme earthing arrangement, & cables have to travel within the wall to the Cu. Customer will not have any form of trunking.

This thread started off fine then but quickly turned into a chuckle brothers sketch (to you, to me) RIP Barry.

Did the op get an answer in the end?

My suggestion was in post #4. No reply as yet.
I'm very good at taking thread off at a tangent.. :)

Yes indeed the break out box is a possibility with a Henley maybe as per @ferg but getting those cables to behave in that confined space is something I would hate to take on. I assume we are talking 25mm².

If your swa is terminated into an external meter cabinet then you do not require your swa ‘tails’ to be double insulated when connecting to the DP isolator as the meter box is an enclosure, accessible with a key/tool only

Ive recently had to do similar, where i have extended the tails via a SWA to a new consumer in a large extension ive been working on. I was able to run the SWA externally and terminated it either end into a large PVC IP rated adaptable box. Inside the box i mounted din rail and din rail terminals which in turn allowed me to use your standard double insulated tails where i entered the property into the switch fused isolator at one end and the new consumer unit at the other.
