Discuss Different watt panels same array? in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Firstly under normal circumstances i wouldnt even entertain this idea and have already advised against it.

However...

Is there a problem with installing 4x 250w modules and 10x 240w panels on the same array, same inverter?

Will the 250w just lose performance or will the whole system be effected?

Does this break any MCS Guidlines?

Cheers

As you say, this is not good practice!

But since there are many more of the the 240W panels, the load line provided by the MPP tracker in the inverter will be much closer to their MPP than to that of the 250W panels. (I am assuming here they are all from the same manufacturer and have the same cell size and construction, if not forget it completely.) The overall effect will be that the 240W panels will give close to their ideal output and the 250W ones less so, as you imply. I don't know for sure about the MCs guidelines but it is not likely to cause any electrical damage.

If you can post a link to the data sheet for the panels in question I may be able to work out a more exact answer for you but not all manufacturers provide enough information for this to be possible.
