It is interesting to hear how people operate with customers and how often customers may be reluctant to pay up. Must admit that in retrospect, for high value items like boilers I would more than likely source the item myself in consultation with the fitter.

Being in the trade as you are Pete999 you see and hear all the horror stories. We tend to ignore the good jobs as that's how it should be. So when another trade comes into your home you worry about the outcome.(I certainly do) Unless its someone I have used and trust.

Unfortunately it seems that the expected good standard is becoming rare. I'm often getting high praise for being polite, turning up when arranged, cleaning up after myself, doing the job I said I would for the price I quoted. I tell customers that is what they should expect and that I act like I would want any trade to act in my house. Then the stories of useless tradesmen start coming. Turns out doing my job is now a USP round my parts
