Discuss Strange crimp connector for BT phone power in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Others have suggested opening the supply and shortening at that end. And we've determined that it's a glued shut PSU.

I'd cut the cable at the plug and wire it into a new power supply that you can open. Depending on the voltage and polarity you should be able to buy one from RS
Nothing lost (other than a trip to casualty for stitches) by judicious use of hacksaw blade and spudger first, and if successful reglue after

You've totally lost me there! Do you have a picture please?

Do you mean the nylon ripcord, found in round cables, like BT dropwire?
No not the rip cord.
Sorry I don't have a photo, the only way I can describe it is each core was shrouded in extremely fine nylon strands.

Just wanted to let you know that the crimpers came in the post today, they arrived very quickly considering they were imported!

Unfortunately, for some reason, the way that they are designed meant that whilst they would accept one of these connectors, it would try and crimp it from the side! Not impressed..

Anyway, I have shortened the cable and added a new connector kindly provided by someone on the forums despite the problem with the crimpers by initially using pliers to clamp down slightly on the inserted wires, before moving on to a screwdriver to push them in a bit further. To get them in properly I got a butter knife and used by thumb to force the contacts in fully.

Pictures below for reference before, during and after.

Thanks for all your help.

I need to let you all know that the crimpers actually work great, there is a small piece of metal held in with a screw over the DEC crimper for some reason (no idea why).

If you unscrew and then remove the piece of metal it crimps DEC connectors perfectly!

I would have edited my original post on the crimpers if I could but that is not possible. If you have the same task and want a pair of cheap but well made DEC crimpers, do use the seller I mentioned previously as they will arrive very quickly and do the job as expected.

That piece of metal can be turned around for different crimps to allow the connector to sit correctly in the tool.
