Discuss The No Bonding / No Work rule......who obeys? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

OK, imagine this scenario. family with young kids, broken socket (wherever) where the kids can access it. no bonding. what do you do if the customer can't afford to have the bonding done?

1. walk away. 2. replace socket and point out the lasck of bonding and the danger involved. 3. spend 2-3 hours doing the bonding for free.

#2 now edited.

I sorry but I simply don't believe people go round checking bonding when doing like for like repairs

I seem to get a lot of jobs where there is no bonding and if its adding a new circuit or socket I won't do it if no bonding and they won't have it done. But if changing like for like I check Zs but don't do a cert.Sometimes the bonding has cost more than the job and taken longer as well. One recently came to over £300 extra for the bonding owing to the difficulty of routing it.I have recently lost a job after it was all agreed upon due to insisting it was done correctly. The usual response I get is " Well I don't see what electricity has to do with water!"

Try explaining your dilemma to your mate and put in terms he will understand eg if he's a mechanic would he change your spark plugs and say nothing about a petrol leak and ht leads breaking down ? If he is a real mate he'll understand and not put you in a position you aren't comfortable with and murphys law says will come back and bite you big time. Shocking int it !

Just quote (and show him) reg 132. 16 and tell him you must comply with it , an he has to spend a few ££££ s on cable an give you a hand to knock it in.

I think common sense needs to be used here. If it's high lighted to the customer that the bonding isn't up to standard and they don't want to rectify it just state it on the certificate. All they will do is get someone else in who will do the work if you turn it down.
