Discuss trunking in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

By your description of this wall it seems there is still a void that you can get your cable down.... Why don't you drill a 20mm hole in middle of where you want your switch and see if that void exists... If it doesn't then trunking it is and just put your surface box over the top of hole yo just made.

is this cable going to have rcd protection?? Needed.

i know trunking is the ans but i need to just double check on the 2 things im not too sure on first was do i take it al the way thru ceiling or stop it at top of ceiling and just wires thru and sealing the hole in ceiling in trunking made by fire proof sealer, foam etc do i need to do if so which ?.

Reading some replies on here it's like nobody has ever seen 3" x 2" put horizontal in a wall! Plus I wouldn't say the guy is struggling as he isn't allowed to create a mess at request of the customer!

Make a small hole in the ceiling, pass cable thru, trunking up, seal hole in ceiling using approved 'fire stop' , similar to silicone but designed for the job of retarding ingress of fire, complete the job.
then if your unsure of what to do next time, follow the more involved/expensive/awkward route and you will be sure to get it right 90%of the time.
and when you go to sit on the bog, take your digital copy of the regs with you for a good read, or to bore the shi# out of you

If your using trunking it will look manky.. Just run from switch use a 90 degree bend and run alaong the ceiling.. One extra bit of trunking aint going to make a difference is it??

Dog rough but it works........

Disclaimer.... Dont try this at home folks...
