Hi guys,
One of my guys drilled through a ring main cable today on the 1st floor of a company, knocking out the MCB, RCD feeding the MCB and the BS88-2 fuse in the basement.
Why did it blow the BS88 fuse?
Cheers
Had a bit of a discussion today, so thought I'd ask on here. When working out spacings for spotlights what setup does everyone use? I know different lights have different outputs and require different spacings, I was just wondering what people use as a rule of thumb.
Cheers, Jim

Quick question, does anyone know if there is a different spec to the U.K. for earth rods?
I'm told in Spain they are longer but not sure if that is correct? Also are there any regs in Spain relating to the positioning of the rods etc (i.e. distance fro property)?
Any advice greatly...

I would suggest we all reply to keep it the same.
In my opinion > 50kW requires different expertise and would normally be an M&E type contract, don't let these guys scope creep into commercial areas, the whole design and contract process is very different above 50kW.

If testing a property which has a ring with 2.5mm/1mm t&e (old cable) and 2.5mm single core cables in conduit (addition), how would you record this on the EICR? As for the 1mm earth on the ring circuit, would this be a code 3?
Looking for advice/pointers. I have installed client supplied GU10 LEDs in a warehouse. Client reporting flicker from LEDs. Installation is 3 phase, lights in question are on 2 different phases. Have heard and read about EMI, any help appreciated. My apologies if this issue has already been...
I'm trying to find a viable way in to becoming an electrician after a career change. I'm 41 years old. I've taken a couple of exams such as 17th edition and inspect / test 2192, but I've been trying to join an apprenticeship but I'm way too old.
I don't particularly want do another course. For...

Why would two cables have the same current rating, but different conductor surface area?
I'm looking at double insulated thin wall 2-core 25A multistrand cable.
In one case the conductor area is 2mm^2, in the other it's 8.4mm^2.
Is this a mistake by a supplier? Or maybe one cable has better...
