I apologise. No offence meant.
Having retired from the electrical fraternity many years ago I now find I have a question and was pointed in the direction of the forum for speedy answers, I will assume from your reply that you don't know or are just not the helpful kind. So much for my first post. You should apply too join the diy section of the forum
Is it ok to use red and black Twin and Earth if brown and blue sleeving is used at termination points ? This is a first post for me so be gentle chaps.
Fair enough, no harm done. It is in his profile and not on his post. Maybe an old reel of cable he has knocking around.
Thanks for the team work GMES.
As you have said I tried to put all the worries of the world of work behind me and any mention of reg's etc upset the somewhat easy life I was trying to find but I have been put in a situation where there is a quantity of 1.0 mm T & E available to use and I am not wanting to trawl through loads of info' when I have been shown this forum especially when I've a life to lead

I would ask why are you installing old colours???
And stick one of these to the DB if you do end up with old and new colours in the installation.
Why? Do they not teach you to use your head any more at college?
Any spark should be aware of cable colours without a sticker telling them that there maybe a difference in them on a install
Good practice?

what making a DB look like a Panini sticker album?
True but it's a reg 514.14
If you know that from the top of your head there is something wrong with you? Lol!

Lol!
We also should know that there is 230 volts at a single phase distribution board. Still has a warning label on it though.
We we live in a world where we need to install 'mind your head' signs on low ceilings so in perspective the harmonisation label seems obvious.
Well thats it then, we must abide by every word the regs say. I had better go and get me some stickers and go and fit them on all the jobs I have done where there has been a cross over in colours because someting bad may happen.
Unfortunately if you believe all this "we need telling everything" attitude to society then there is something very long with life it self.

Hey man. I don't make the rules. I just follow them.
Yea maybe you should then lol. I keep a reel of mixed colour stickers in the van so it's not really no hardship to me to stick a sticker on the DB at a cost of a few pence haha.
Just because its wrote in a book you pay alot of money for doesnt mean you have to you know.
You do realise that the BGB is neither mandatory nor statutory, but just a guide dont you?
Peopple need to use their brains a little more, not be led by a book. I am not having a dig at either of you, but what purpose does a sticker on a DB stating there are different colours used on on a install actually serve?

Maybe you should challenge your assesor next time then, prove you can think outside the box and provide a reasoned argument. While I agree the regs are " our bible" so to speak, you should alos yourself be capable of arguing any pros and cons in it that affect your install.
You pay good money for your annual assesment, why shouldn't you argue your case?
There are too many yes men who are members of the scams, dont be a sheep.
What do you mean? I do not pay anything to be a member of the NICEIC.
