I was fault finding a streetlighting column today and found this. That'll be why the light doesn't work then. Wouldn't it have been better to drop a new length of cable in instead of using chokky blocks? They have their place sure, just not inside the very top of an exposed lighting column.
Hi all,
I know tails are meant to be less than 3 metres in length and if not then a switch fuse needs to be installed.
What's the situation when the tails from a flat go from a communal hallway then into the consumer unit? (Approx 5m)
Do you just put a switch fuse next to the meter? (The run...
In order to meet current regulation the maximum meter tail length should be no more than 3M and if over a 100amp fused switch should be fitted - is that correct.
(This guidline is not in the iet on-site guide except that this maybe specified by the distributor)
521.10.1 mentions that the tails...
Been asked to quote a job - total rewire of four flats. As individual flats it's all very straight forward, ring, lighting, shower etc. However UK Power networks are installing a new head and meters for the whole block on the ground floor.
Obviously the distance to the top flat is going to be...
Hello people Doing cu change , TNCS, upgrading bonding , the gas is other side of house , cu in double garage had to take cable up into bedroom above in trunking and then across loft down external wall i conduit into gas meter box and bond there. When measured route it came to abouty 25m but...
Hi guys. When using a DC volt drop calculator, when it comes to the length of DC cable run, does that refer to the distance of the panels from the inverter or the distance of the cable from the - terminal of the inverter to the positive. As in the length of the single core circuit from positive...
Situation is: customer has installed a 6mm cable to his shed for a couple of sockets and a couple of lights. he has actually made a very good job of it, 6mm T/E in 20mm pvc conduit, all surface ( none buried.). now he wants me to supply accessories, MCBs etc. and connect up. as it's outside, i'm...
What is the standard length of the heating element within an immersion tank?
Need to replace one tomorrow and would like to know if they are standard size before I go to job
The tank has one element only, located at top of tank
Sure I am missing something obvious here but having recently gotten into PAT I am confused by some of the extra long extension reels available.
The code of practice for in service inspection & test states clearly the maximum allowable length of extension leads in relations to csa of the core...
Hi guys and girls I'm new to the forum and it's probably on here somewhere but could someone please tell me a simple way of calculating volt drop as I'm not having much joy with the Maths side of things and I've got my 2391-10 in two weeks as easy as possible plse
Hi , I doubt there will be a regulation against it but is there a maximum distance in a domestic property between the cut out and meter and the fuse board for the flat? Currently in a flat iv been at there is a redundant storage heater board beside the meter and main cut out which will be ripped...
Just changed an FCU, and terminals are in different places, therefore a bit tight for some wires.
Just wondering what length of cable you all leave in back boxes for such eventuallities!
Cheers
Hi guys, doing a rewire in which i plan to do the circuits in 4mm as radials, one down one up and kitchen. When designing how can i work out the loading along the circuit? Also how can you work out the loading on a lighting circuit radial as the load will be split along the length so the...

Just pondering my voltage drop calcs for a fused spur off a ring final. Additional circuit will be around 15-20m long so I though I should do this properly....
My problem is calculating the voltage drop in the existing ring to the point of the spur which of course depends on distribution of...

Hi All,
Is there a maximum length for an earthing conductor, which is connected to the earthrod in a TT installation?
If so, does anybody know what the max length please?
quick question can u cut the neutral and earth fly leads of a rcbo when installing them into a distibuton board so you can make them look somthing? the curly neutral lead is a pain i want to straghten it and cut it to fit is this allowed?:banghead:
Testing a lighting circuit with a long lead, all readings R1 R2 Rn around 0.6 to.08 ohms. Adding R1 + R2 = more than 1 ohm. Is this acceptable for recording as the result or should it be less than 1 ohm. TT system.
Thanks for any advice
Hi All,
Am installing a ring circuit of 5 sockets,10 x 5ft twin flourescents & 6 x 400w pir flood lights into a outbuilding used for storage. I am thinking a 10mm 3 core swa will be suitable.
The run is 77mtrs. Am going to stick a 40amp RCBO at main fuseboard and a rcd board in...

I just bought a surge protector mini extention cable to keep with my laptop. It comes with a moulded 2 meter cable, standard UK plug on the end of it, and on the bottom of the unit, the words: NON REWIREABLE...
Hi guys. Ive generally no problem going through the deign process of cable selection for a circuit to be installed, (i try keep my hand in now and then rather than just looking in the OSG) but when i look at a RFC as in appendix 15, i get a little stuck. Ib = 32A, so In = 32A breaker, take it...
