Hello
Just wondering if anyone has experienced any failures recently with their mains LED garden spike lights?
Have had 2 go completely and one that's barely got any output in the space of a few weeks. Using Deltech lights and can't say I've had a problem before but what with the cold weather...

On my landing are three connected lights. They have 230v LED bulbs. There are three switches - one obviously an intermediate switch. In one of the four 'off' arrangements of the switches, the LEDs glow faintly. Does anyone have a theory on where this current might be leaking to? Thanks.
hello!
Just looking for some advise,
Basically we had an electrician fitting a new shower and lights yesterday, he tested a light socket before touching it (after turning all fuses off) and it was live... come to realisation an electrician working on behalf of an energy supplier had fitted the...
I recently bought a property consisting of a ground floor cafe and an upstairs apartment.
It had one mains supply with a mains meter which supplied the cafe then a sub meter which supplied the upstairs apartment.
The landlord subtracted one from the other to give separate bills?
I want to have...
Hi, I'm guessing this is the right subforum for this.
I'm a DIY'er who knows how to wire a plug and change a lightbulb. I often pretend I know a lot more than that but I'm in the company of experts here, so I'll accept my place.
So if I want to mess with mains electric, I need some form of...
I am looking at a job where the DNO supply is around 30 meters from the Consumer units. The SWA will be installed surface to the ground floor building up into the flats.
It is 3 separate flats, with 3 DNO supplies. I am thinking that best method would to be put sub-mains for each flat with...

I'm planning to install a U-Heat mat in a small en-suite. Never done one before. The thermostat will be on the adjacent bedroom wall. What is the recommended method of providing the live feed to the thermostat/on off switch unit? From a fused connection unit, switched fused connection unit or a...
Hello everyone
I'm picking up some remedial works from an EICR fail in a commercial property.
Its a 3 phase supply with old steel conduits , trunking & coupled metal equipment, that provides the earth to the various locations.
At present the earthing is insufficient, every earth in the...
Have been looking at tools on eBay and strangely this popped up as recommendation.........
Judging by its popularity and the amount sold and number of people watching, this (IMO) gives an insight to the amount of non-electricians (no real electrician is going to be buying this!)who are meddling...
Hi,

The FCU is connected to a home alarm system and I would like to add a normal plug socket, any advice would be greatly appreciated

I thought folk might be interested in the Zellweger mains signalling system which I discovered yesterday. My sister wanted to know if she had economy 7 electricity in her rented home. She described to me the intake which as well as the cutout, meter and CU included a 'small black shoebox'...
Hi,
Just looking for a bit of advice, we live in a semi, and the mains power runs along our neighbours wall (about half way up the house) and then goes into our consumer unit which is in the kitchen.
We have just begun building a lean to extension, which effectively means that the mains power...
Hey all,
I have a heating system to play around with as it's been not working very well, heating non stop until house was like a sauna etc.. and guy wants to fit a nest that he bought. He's a bit keen on going all smart home so I'm thinking of going to do a Loxone course.
Problem so far is that...
Greetings all.
I have the lowest cost supply of electricity available here in France. that means that I can only have a few heaters running at the same time as the oven is on or the main rcd supplied by the electricity company trips.
now my problem is trying to turn it back on again. it refuses...
Hi Folks,
Although I'm not an electrical engineer, I've registered on this site in an effort to seek some advice regarding a strange "240v mains" issue I'm seeing in my work shop - I will explain.
The problem first came to my notice whilst trying to locate a 100Hz buzz on my amplifier. I traced...
I don't normally get involved in this but have been asked by customer to fit smoke alarms - this is for a property that will be rented out. I know that mains powered smokes used to be the way to go in this situation as tenants tended to take out the PP3 batteries to use in other equipment...
Hi,
I am currently in the middle of completing a new installation in time for a Halloween event at a local activity centre. Over the weekend, while I was not there, it seems that they have lost power to the sub mains distribution panel.
Unfortunately I didn't have my Megger to hand yesterday as...
