Hi All
First posting to the forum so I hope that I've posted in the correct place.
I'm looking to install a doorbell at my home in France. The distance between the bell push and the location of the bell/chime is about 40 m. I originally wanted a battery operated unit but I've been warned that...
Hi all,
I have install a RCD fused spur on the end of line feed to a bathroom lighting circuit. Thus protecting the bathroom with rcd.
I tested the rcd (manually via the push 'test' button) and it killed the lights and fan as expected.
I used my volt stick to confirm that the cables were...
Hi all,
Am wiring in some lights in a carpark..
The total distance is 150m
there are 4 lighting posts rated as follows A-200w B-300W C-300W D200W (with A closest to CU)
All loads are LED
They are spread at distances of
CU - A = 30m
A-B = 40m
B-C = 40m
C-D = 40m
Having done my volt drop calcs...

hi guys
Need some help in calculating voltage drop on a branched radial circuit. (13A design load 2.5mm cable)( cu to junction box 8m 2.5mm)
for a standard loop in loop out radial it would be IbxDxmV/m/1000
this circuit has 2 branches from the junction box
one/ 10m long ( 1 double...
Hi. First time poster here so please go easy on me.
A customer of mine has had a summer house built at the rear of her garden which has been supplied with two 6Kw heaters! Yep, 12Kw!! She would also like 2 switched double sockets and about 4 LED spots installed. Now the problem, as if a 12Kw...
Re: Extra Low volt switching for lighting
What regulations are there for extra low voltage controlled 12 Volt lighting. Also are there regs for any type of low volt DC switching from 12 volt battery (solar charged) off-grid LED lighting ?
The control unit is home brew with infra red handheld...
Just tested a lighting circuit to find that the voltage between Line and Neutral was 240V and Line to Earth was around 70 volts? What could this be? a short between Line and Earth? Also the circuit is on a 6A 30mA RCBO but doesn't trip, the test button works though...
thanks
been to look at a job with a long main supply approx 60m long underground 25mm 3core SWA running off a 100amp fused isolator.
meter position is at drive entrance and house is approx 60meters away.
not done a voltdrop calc for ages so can someone correct me if i,m wrong.
this is a new build...
Hi folks Iknow this topic has been beaten to death on this forum but after reading some of the posts and speaking to some of my co workers I am still a littleconfused, I am aware there is several ways of calculating voltage drop but amstill unsure of when to use the correction factor of 1.2 and...

Hi people
Are we the only company to have a nightmare when dealing with Mastervolt technical regarding faulty inverters. They're shambolic and constantly trying to blame the installer. To be honest, I can live with a warranty argument with an inverter company, but as Mastervolt contacts the...
Hi everyone,
I am intending on working in the uk shortly, i am from ireland and dont have the uk regs presently.
I am trying to prepare for the exmas i will face and the cable calculations/volt drop calculations are something i cannot remember doing here in ireland in my college time so my...

After installing some LED fittings in a bathroom and disabling an electric shower circuit I carried out a check on the whole installation. All fine until I used my Di-LOG probe to probe the switch plate screws to check that I had not pinched any live wires in the light switch back boxes around...

Hi
I've been asked to provide a supply to a machine shop on a farm. The nearest supply is 170m away.
I'm working out the vd/a/m and I'm looking at having to install a 25mm 2 core SWA to compenate. But that is while working out the current carrying capacity of the cable at 152amps (Ref. E) or...
Hi Guys
I saw the other day a Voltage Optimisation Company stating that you can connect and feed an inverter via an optimised circuit, are there any views on how this would be allowed under G83-2
Hello people Just so i get this right i thought i would post my maths here for people to comment on.
Garden lights on a sub main. Sub main is 20meters from the main CU on a 6mm armoured cable. the last light is 50 meters from the sub main. meaning end to end 70 odd meters.
So my maths are...
My fluke T140 past away this week and now looking for a new tester.I was very satisfied with the T140, very practical and fast.
My dealer have only the new T150 at 190euros.On ebay is aprox 160.
Before ordering a new one was thinking to ask here and see what you are using ? If there is any other...
Can anybody recommend a high quality made extract fan 230 volt with timer for zone 1 of a bathroom .

This is one of a weekly question by sparks magazine posted on Facebook to win free tools each week. Everyone has answered B. 8Volts. I am not sure this is correct. Please could anyone help me with this. I have posted it up in here rather than just the trainee section so more people will see it...

Hi All,
Only my second posting here so apologies for any transgressions in advance. This is almost certainly a post for the DIY section but since I can't post in there, here goes.
