Are trunking copper links still a requirement on metal trunk joints in an industrial install? They used to come with the trunk but are now an optional extra.

Anybody help ?

you can buy copper links cheaper than 2 crimps time and 4mm although there is an argument that they are no longer required so long as you can prove the continuity of the trunking

i agree with mogga, that if you can prove continuity, then why put in links? surely thats what the joining plates are for. same for ladder and tray IMO. There are lots of things we do as sparks, that we just say, well thats whats always been done, and we just do it. is it actually needed?

I know people will say that the steel will corrode, and the copper wont, but you are still attaching to the same steel, that will corrode, so surely 4- 8 bolts each side of the join are better than one bolt each side, with a copper strip!

I would love to hear your opinions

John

I would put them in anyway i was once doing a job big trunking runs and so on and was told after a week of putting it in there should be copper links in as per the spec, sorry they forgot ,i was working for a firm at the time so didnt cost me anything but still a pain in the ar*e for the apprentice industrial always require them im currently working on a nuclear site and they would earth the bog seat if they could!
