telectrix that is fair enough because you are giving somebody/homeowner information they need to know because changing a fuse is within there capabilitys, but anybody who is removing the switch should have sufficient knowledge.

Hence competent persons onions: or shall we just be like america and prevent anyone swapping like for like (old for new) fronts etc....Its up to the homeowner after all whether they employ anyone to do the work for them or not........

unless competent in the task you are undertaking do not proceed it is simple, so are you telling me you see a problem with a 2 gang switch? so you note every 2 gang switch on a PIR, move into a large scale property and your PIR will turn into war and peace. it does not need noting or labeling end of, lets not wrap our job into anymore red tape than it already is.

it is within the capability of most home owners to replace a light switch. the sensible ones will isolate the CU before attempting this. then get confused with the switch wiring if there's more than 2 wires, so we come in and it's a case of "£40 to fix it, £60 if you watch, £80 if you've had a go yourself"

so wirepuller are you saying you should label it or you should follow safe isolation procedure or both?

Never labelled more than one circuit in a switch,or at the cu or anywhere else....unless there is 400v......
Safe isolation...not neccessarily the full monty if you are just changing a switch,but at least verify it's dead before delving in.

not sure how everyone else feels on this subject but i think it is exhausted now, so in a nutshell, some leave borrowed netrals on one mcb, some replace the strapers and remove the borrowed neutral, some label switches, some label back boxes some dont label at all, some think homeowners can change switches and some think they cant, some note it on the PIR some note it on an install cert and some dont note it all, some think the homeowner has the final decision and some believe they dont, so now that is all sorted i'm off to :banghead:

I would just like to say that its up to the competent person (sparky and/or homeowner) as to the action to take....BS7671 and anything seconded to it are after all only guidance notes.....
